Someone Opposed to Social Media's Newfound Views

I am someone who got rid of all social media at the beginning of 2021. When I chose the major of Communications for my Bachelor’s degree, I was more thinking of public speaking and writing and forgot all about the social media aspect. Throughout this course and term at Southern Utah University, I have learned a lot behind the usage of social media by business and how instrumental it is to a business’s success.

When I am on social media, I focus on the negatives. Comparing myself to others, seeing others accomplish goals I have but haven’t reached myself, and all the negativity wears me down. Now that I have seen the flip side and the positives that can come from social media in helping small businesses, I have a newfound respect for the applications. While I still won’t use them personally, I can see the value social media brings for a growing business.

The part of the course I enjoyed the most was this part: blogging. I have always loved writing. Journaling is a big part of my day and I love reflecting upon my inner thoughts and the events throughout each ordinary day. I always read others’ blogs and wonder if I could write one that grasps others’ attention like theirs grab mine. This has introduced me to a deeper passion for writing than I never thought I knew, and for that, I will be forever grateful!
